Sportsmans Lodge is the ideal accommodation choice for fly fishermen, fishing and walking groups, skiers, family and business groups or those individuals, couples or groups who want to chill out, meet new people or reunite with old friends.

Fishing:

The Tongariro river is classed as one of the best trout fishing rivers in the world where you can catch both rainbow and brown trout all year ‘round and the Sportsmans Lodge is under 5 minutes walk from the from the world famous Bridge Pool.

You can literally step into your waders from your room and take a short stroll of less than a 100m out our backyard to be standing on the banks of the mighty Tongariro.

Mountain Biking:

If mountain biking is your thing there are plenty of options nearby starting with the Tongariro River Trail, an easy, mainly flat track suitable for families and casual riders that goes right past our back door.

You may also choose to mountain bike through the Kaimanawa Forest Park or the spectacular Timber Trail.

The Great Lake Trail is one of the most popular trails of the New Zealand Cycle Trail network as there are three different sections of the Great Lake Trail (all grade 3, intermediate) that make up a total of 71km: Waihaha section (30km), Kawakawa section (19.5km), W2K section (21km)

Hiking Tongariro National Park

On our door step we have some stunning hikes in the Tongariro Park Area from short 20 minutes strolls to 8 hours of the famous Tongariro Crossing.

White Water Rafting
