We would like to introduce to you the new owners of the Sportsmans Lodge, Matt Laity and Nick Street, long-time friends and fly fishermen.

Matt and Nick met as two kids on the shores of Lake Taupo in the 90s and have been adventuring together ever since, Matt resides locally with his wife and four children and Nick farms nearby with his wife and four children.

The Sportsmans first caught Matt’s attention and then on a fishing trip he floated the idea to Nick while waist deep in the Tongariro River. Both men share a love of the river, fishing, adventure, friends, family, retelling old tales and creating new tales and so, the Sportsmans was an easy sell.

From the 1st of March 2024 the doors will temporarily close while Matt Laity and his building team carry out some exciting renovations which we look forward to sharing with you when we reopen in the Spring, you can follow the current Facebook page.

We are truly excited to bring to you a place for family, friends, travellers, adventurers, amblers and anglers to create incredible chapters in your stories where the tales are retold for years to come.
